As a means of supporting the Government’s initiative on healthy living, Tigo Tanzania, in collaboration with Visions Sports have launched an annual marathon dubbed as the Dodoma Marathon. The city of Dodoma will transform into a centre of fun and fitness for the whole family on November 12, 2017 as this growing capital hosts the inaugural event.
The announcement was made during a joint press conference held in Dodoma today, graced by the Regional Commissioner of Dodoma, Hon. Jordan Rugimbana.
“We are thrilled to be hosting an event which will not only bring the nation together, but one which promotes our diverse culture and tourism,” said Hon. Rugimbana. “With a high influx of visitors into the city we will see a boost in the region’s economic development,” he said.
Race weekend will include a 42km Full Marathon, 21km Half Marathon, a 10km Run and a 5km Fun Walk, with additional prizes awarded to top participants in each event distance. Elite marathon runners as well as first timers from across the country and beyond are expected to participate in this much anticipated competition.
“We are proud to sponsor an event which encourages people to remain fit and healthy, utilize their skills in sports and shine,” said Henry Kinabo, Tigo’s Zonal Director - North Zone. “We are looking forward to grow with this event, as it continues to bring fresh ideas to the table and supports local development while revealing Dodoma to the worldwide community,” he said, adding that Tigo would be sponsoring the 21km half marathon event.
Kicking off and finishing at the Jamhuri Stadium, the Dodoma Marathon will be a race like no other. With its majestic landscape and historical monuments, Dodoma city offers runners a picturesque backdrop as they make their way to the finish line.
For many runners, the desire to do a marathon is about personal challenge. You might want to test your limits or prove that you can go the distance. Perhaps a friend has talked you into it. Maybe you'd like to lose weight, get healthier or raise awareness for a charity.
Whatever your reason, hold on to it and remind yourself of it often during the months that lie ahead. When your legs are tired or the weather is nasty, maintaining your motivation will help you get out the door.

Be aware of your limits. The 26.2 miles in a marathon put you at a significantly higher risk for injury than your daily neighborhood jogs. Consult with your physician before embarking on any training program.
Start early: Conventional wisdom recommends that aspiring marathoners run consistent base mileage for at least a year before embarking on a marathon training program.
One of the most common causes of injury is building weekly mileage too soon, too fast—so don't underestimate the importance of consistently running at least 20–30 miles a week regularly before committing to training for a marathon.
